Curriculum Vitae

He completed his primary education at Taşköprü Primary School in Yalova and his secondary and high school education at Yalova High School. He graduated from Sakarya University, Department of Civil Engineering, in 2001, which he entered in 1997. Between 2001–2002, he worked as a civil engineer at Yalova Municipality. In 2003, he completed his master’s degree in the Department of Civil Engineering, Hydraulics Division. In 2005, he was awarded the TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye) international research fellowship and conducted scientific studies related to his doctoral dissertation at Purdue University, USA, until 2007, when he returned to Türkiye. Between 2002–2009, he worked as a research assistant in the Department of Civil Engineering. He completed his Ph.D. at Sakarya University in 2008. From 2009 to 2010, he performed his compulsory military service as a reserve officer. He was appointed as Assistant Professor in 2009, Associate Professor in 2012, and Professor in 2018. He is married and has two children, one son and one daughter.

Research Interests

His research generally focuses on the applications of new mathematical techniques, also referred to as hydroinformatics, in water resources engineering and hydrology. In particular, his work has been published in reputable journals on topics such as flood inundation–hazard–risk mapping, preparation of flood risk management plans, flood routing, modeling of sediment transport in rivers, and modeling of water quality in rivers. He has published 45 articles to date in journals indexed in the Web of Science (WoS). His publications have received over 850 citations in the WoS database. His overall WoS h-index is 16. He has supervised 9 doctoral dissertations and 8 master’s theses to completion.

Administrative Duties

Between 2013–2019, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Sakarya University Journal of Science, during which the journal was indexed by important databases such as Ulakbim TR-Dizin, EBSCO, BASE, and DOAJ. Between 2017–2020, he served as the Head of the Disaster Management Division at the Graduate School of Natural Sciences of Sakarya University. He is one of the founders of the Sakarya University Disaster Management Research and Application Center and served as its Director between 2018–2021. From 2019 to 2022, he held several positions, including Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Head of the Civil Engineering Division at the Graduate School of Natural Sciences, and member of the Faculty of Engineering Administrative Board. From September to November 2022, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Sakarya University. Between March 2023 and August 2023, he served as Dean of Research. Between July 2022 and August 2024, he served as Vice Rector responsible for academic research, and between May 2024 and August 2024, as Vice Rector responsible for education and student affairs. Since 2024, he has been serving as an academic evaluator at the Türkiye Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC).
